Ok….I confess…I stayed up way too late playing with this little application. As you watch my movie you will see that I got a bit punchy while writing my script. This Xtra Normal Beta Text-to-Movie App is just too cool. Registration requires an email, but you can play before you register. To make a movie choose the Make Movie option, select a world to work in (I selected Peepz), decide whether you want to work with one character or two, design your scene, and write your script. I found it was easier to direct the actions of my characters after I wrote my script.
I am convinced that students would really enjoy working with this text-to-speech movie making application. You could assign students a character trait to script or ask them to write a scenario where one character teaches another character a concept…the possibilities seem endless! Completed movies can be stored in individual accounts or published to YouTube (if you have a YouTube account). And of course, we know from my yesterday’s Fliggo posting YouTube movies can be imported into the video safe environment of your person Fliggo site. If you or your students decide to work with this neat little application, please share your movies so we can all benefit!
Word of warning…like so many open applications on the web, some of the movies that are posted on the site are not appropriate for all eyes and ears (I did note some curse words in some of the scenes I watched). Review and look over this site before you introduce it to your students. Also, keep in mind…this is definitely a BETA application. What is now free, may cost later, though the creators have stated that some options will always remain free to the public.
