c188900_sWhether you are designing a website or selecting paint color for a room in your house, viewing and experimenting with color can be fun and maybe even stressful (depending on the size of your project). There are some great color scheme sites that you can play and work with to gain perspective and consider new color combinations. By the way, these would be great sites to share with students as well.

The Color Scheme Designer – experiment with the various links and tools as you seek combinations that you find appealing. When you find a combination that you really like click on the Color List link to view the color codes you could use for web design work. The tool is very distinctive, from the standpoint there are many options and links you can experiment with. The screenshot below will take you directly to the site.

COLOURlovers.com – I really enjoyed playing with this site, though I must mention there are some social aspects to the site that may cause it to be blocked in the school environment. “COLOURlovers.com is a resource that monitors and influences color trends. COLOURlovers.com gives the people who use color – whether for ad campaigns, product design, or in architectural specification – a place to check out a world of color, compare color palettes, submit news and comments, and read color related articles and interviews.” There is a lot to explore and work with on this site…colors, palettes, patterns and more. The screenshot below will take you directly to the site.

Color Scheme Chooser – “This colour schemer tool helps you choose colour schemes for monochromatic, analogic, complimentary, split complementary, triadic, and double contrast. It’s especially great for exploring color combinations easily and quickly. As you’ll see, it automatically creates gorgeous color schemes to use for your Web projects or other projects. The HTML color codes are also provided within this color tool.” Click on the screen shot below to link to this color tool.

You can also have a color scheme delivered to your RSS reader or email if you sign up for Daily Color Scheme. Some of the schemes were really lovely and inspiring.
