I have been playing with a Web 2.0 application called Kickfly (can you tell?). Kickfly is a Web service that makes it easy to create 3D virtual scenes that are personalized with your photos, friends, and music. This could be a neat application to use if you wanted to create a virtual gallery of student art work.
Currently, you need to post images (open to the public) through Flickr, Photobucket, or on a webpage in order to incorporate your own photographs. This product would be much easier to use if there was an option to upload photographs from your computer (maybe, later….pretty please…are you listening Kickfly creaters?). Users can also select from several different 3-D setting and have a few music options that can be selected as well. You can embed your 3-D scenes in Facebook or on a webpage (select options if you want to embed on a blog or webpage). I played with the code a bit to get the image to appear on my blog in a somewhat reduced size (I changed the height and width percentages and set the values to scale). It would be nice if users could select image size before embedding the images on their screen…some people are not comfortable playing with the coding (hint, hint).
All told, I found the application pretty intuitive and thought it was a fun way to create a small memorial gallery of my Dad since this is Father’s Day weekend.

hi Jen,
thanks for your review of kickfly.com! I’m one of the creators and will definitely pass your comments along. Nice 3D gallery of your dad! Make sure you try the full-screen mode too (just click on the button).
For anyone who wants to try out kickfly, please do. We’re in beta (permanent beta), and we need real user feedback as to decide what the next thing is to do – or if we can get enough visitors to continue on this path. So thanks for visiting and for your comments! Feel free to write me at joel@kickfly.com with your thoughts.. (no spam please : )

Joel,
Thanks for taking time to visit my blog…keep us updated regarding your product…it really is a neat venue to display student work. I just had a though…is there anyway that students could post voice-overs for each image. Artist statements would be so enriching! Thanks again!

Jen,
Thanks for your thought! Do you mean that, when the mouse goes
over each image (maybe on-click), there is a bit of audio voiceover
that plays?
thanks again,
Joel
PS and by the way, check out search.kickfly.com also; this is
our search engine app that displays results in 3D.

Hi Joel,
So nice of you to keep coming back! Let me see if I can clarify. I thought it would be really neat if students could embed a voice recording for each image, so that as users took a virtual tour of an image gallery they could click on an image and hear the student talk about the image. Does that help clarify… I know it’s asking a lot. I just thought this product would be even better if students could add a voice to their images. Thanks again for checking back.
I checked out search.kickfly.com and will write a review in an upcoming post. It looks fascinating!
Thanks again for stopping back and listening to my suggestions,
Jen
